Visiting Lavender Connection Sequim WA with Toddler

Our friend J visited us from San Francisco, California, and we decided to bring her around to neighbouring cities and towns in Washington since she's already visited Seattle before.

We decided to do a day trip to Sequim because August is still in the midst of the lavender season, and where better to go than Sequim? Sequim is known as the Lavender Capital of Washington.

Another reason was that I wanted to show Gwen the amazing animals in the Olympic Game Farm, which was located in close proximity to many lavender farms in Sequim!

Why Lavender Connection?

In pre-Gwen days, we had visited Purple Haze Lavender Farm and Lost Mountain Lavender Farm.

This time we decided to visit a new farm. We picked Lavender Connection because it is certified organic, has a perfect 5.0 rating on Google and closes slightly later than other farms, at 5.30pm (many lavender farms close at 5pm.) It was also very near the Olympic Game Farm, so we could visit both attractions without chalking up more driving time.

There were ample parking lots in front of the lavender field at Lavender Connection and there was a lovely scent of lavender in the air just as we got off the car.

What's to Love About Lavender Connection

  • Facing the carpark is the prettiest, tiniest, toddler-sized wooden bench ever! Gwen immediately got up the little bench by herself and spent lots of time climbing up and down. It’s the perfect picture taking spot for little ones and le husband and I were trigger happy.

  • There are wooden signages naming the different variants of lavender. I like how informative it is and was surprised to see so many different types of lavender!

  • There are bigger rocking chairs (for grownups) along the edge of the lavender field, it’s wonderful to relax there (and discreetly breastfeed) while enjoying the scenic view
  • The quaint gift shop has exquisite and handmade items. From skincare to home decor pieces to essential oils, you can bring a piece of the lavender fields home. We got a lovely sachet of lavender to scent up the car and the large bottle of lavender essential oils (such affordable pricing!) which smelt heavenly

  • Outside the gift shop, we noticed toy vehicles for little people. Gwen got onto a toy tractor and went around the grass field on it. It was such an adorable sight

  • Near the gift shop are two reclining chairs and a towering plum tree. One of the lavender field owners was really friendly, he invited us to try the plums and offered to take a photo for us. Some of the branches are low hanging so Gwen could pick the plums too. Never expected to do fruit picking at the lavender farm, so this was a pleasant surprise

Verdict?

It was a ~3 hour journey to get to Sequim but no regrets!

Lavender Connection was a great decision too, because it definitely lived up to its reputation and excellent Google rating with its picturesque location, well-maintained and thriving lavender fields, delightful gift shop as well as little fringe experiences young children would enjoy (toddler bench, toy tractor, plum picking etc).

Given it's an organic lavender farm, we had no qualms letting Gwen wander in the fields, touching and smelling the flowers.

We didn’t do u-pick because it was already a great sensorial experience for Gwen to walk through the lavender aisles, smell the flowers and observe bees!

Notes

  • Pick an off-peak day and time to visit. Prior to this visit, we tried visiting Sequim during Sequim’s Lavender Festival 2019 and was stuck in a massive traffic jam. After a delay of 2 hours, we aborted the Sequim visit and checked out Kitsap Memorial State Park instead, which turned out to be a nice place to spot tiny crabs, barnacles, oysters and clams on the beach.
  • There are quite a number of bees hard at work in the lavender field. They generally mind their own business, but if you're concerned about bee stings, dress your little one up in long-sleeved outfits.
  • If you are planning to do u-pick, bring a bag or box to put the lavender bouquet in. When picking the flowers, the farm provides pretty baskets to hold your picks. When you pay for the lavender, they’re bundled up and it's best to place them in a bag or box to collect the lavender buds that fall out. This way, you can gather the loose buds into a satchet to scent up your closets!
