With a young toddler in tow, the husband and I are mindful to pick nature trails that are kid-friendly. Research told us the Gold Creek Pond Trail is paved, clean and flat, and generally an easy walk. So we didn't need further convincing. Off we went, in late summer!
WA Gold Creek Pond Trail with Toddler!
We didn't cover the entire 2.3 mile loop trail but we walked till we had a hearty fill of the great outdoors, the fresh air, and the beautiful mountain view on the trail. We spotted squirrels here and there and that made for a wonderful wildlife experience for little Gwen (17 months).
At some point, we came across a small patch of grass strewn with wildflowers with a majestic mountain view behind. With the morning sunlight, it made for the most beautiful photos. It looked like Gwen was bathed in soft, golden hues as she explored the pretty little yellow flowers.
When we walked back to the trailhead, it was close to Gwen's nap time but we decided to check out the picnic area quickly and that was the best decision ever.
It was there, by the tranquil pond side, that I decided to practice quieting my mind, to be fully and wholly present with what Nature is offering to my senses, and to really feel relaxed and grounded. I had been inspired by this Believe.net article Take a Mindful Hike and wanted to lose yet rediscover myself in nature.
While I did that, Gwen was at my side, quietly dropping little rocks into the pond waters, watching ripples form in spectacular spirals. reflecting off the towering mountains around.
This remarkable view reminded me of visiting Moraine Lake in Alberta, Canada just a few months ago. The waters of Gold Creek Pond are of a deep turquoise shade, just like Moraine Lake, just more shallow and therefore bottom-clear.
All Trails label this trail as "accessible year-round", so I think we'll love to return someday with a picnic basket to spend a longer time soaking in the views. On our way out around noon, we noticed groups of people carrying portable stoves and containers of food, so I believe it's a really popular picnic destination. Head there early to find your favourite spot or picnic bench!
