As you know I'm a big fan of recycling day-to-day items and turning them into stimulating toys for my little toddler.
Here's a great one that requires very few, and easily accessible, household items. What's more, it's a quiet (and relatively safe) activity for your toddler if you need a couple of uninterrupted moments to answer a phone call, make a grocery list etc.
Q Tip Cup Filling Game for Toddlers!
Materials Needed for Q Tip Cup Filling Game
- A plastic boba/bubble tea cup (with a sippy lid) or
a disposable coffee cup with a lid
Clean and dry the cups before use. To get rid of any sticker label on the cups, try applying peanut butter on the adhesive residue before washing (the oils will facilitate a clean wash.)
If you don't have Q-tips, you could substitute them for beans, grains or rice in your kitchen pantry. Do keep a watchful eye on your little one if the size of the pantry ingredients may bring about choking risk.
Benefits of This Q Tip Cup Filling Game
- Builds focus and concentration
- Refines motor skills
- Teaches cause and effect
This activity is a highly repetitive one, but your little Einstein would love repeating the same action to see if it arrives at the same outcome each time.
Also, she may discover that the filled cup makes a nice rattling sound with the Q tips and may start to use it like a musical instrument!
If your little one is a huge fan of "filling and dumping" activities, you could also try making a Wet Wipe Container Baby Toy.
